CNC lathe is done. Pictures posted.

November 29, 2007

Hi everyone,

I implemented CNC controls on the Prototype 3 rim lathe. I
have posted some pictures and descriptions on the website.

It was a steep learning curve, but the results are well
worth it. Instead of cranking handles all day, I can
accomplish most operations with a few mouse cliks.

I am still learning G Code, the programming language used
in most CNC machines. The lathe does exactly what you tell
it to do. If you put a decimal point in the wrong place,
the machine will gladly comply and run your cutting tool
into the chuck or try to cut a half an inch in one pass!
I've already done that a few times.

Regards
